Abortion Doula Care

trauma-informed. gender-inclusive.
virtually and in-person.

Abortion is deeply personal, often emotional, and always deserving of support.

Whether you’re preparing for an abortion, navigating recovery, or exploring your options, you deserve care that sees all of you.

My work is rooted in supporting folks who are often neglected or harmed by the medical system: LGBTQIA+ folks, BIPOC, survivors of SA or intimate partner violence, sex workers, those in non-traditional family structures, and all facing care barriers.

Holding space for your story, your needs, and your autonomy
while offering compassionate, shame-free, agency-affirming care
.

I meet you where you are emotionally, physically, logistically, and spiritually through every step of your journey –

with virtual doula support anywhere in the world, in-person abortion doula care in Philly, and can travel throughout the East Coast, Midwest, and beyond when needed.

about me

I’m Lorrae (she/her), a certified abortion doula, and currently training in Somatic Experiencing and postpartum doula care.

My own abortion experiences, an ectopic pregnancy, and long-standing ovarian health issues showed me first-hand how disconnected and empty the traditional medical system can be. From shame and stigma, to dismissal of pain – I found how little support there was for our physical lived experience, let alone emotional weight and fear.

That absence shaped my drive to become the support I needed, and offer compassionate care that stays present with all of who you are, even and especially when it’s messy.

For the past decade, I’ve supported people navigating sexual trauma, identity shifts, and relational healing, first as a sex-educator and intimacy coach, and now as a doula. My background in somatic care brings tools that help you regulate your nervous system, reconnect with your body, and find emotional safety and steadiness, even in life’s hard or uncertain moments.

I center care that’s inclusive, queer-affirming, body-liberated, and deeply attuned to lived experience, especially while navigating trauma, complex relational dynamics, or systemic harm. Whether you’re choosing abortion amid abuse, facing stigma in your relationship or community, or just need someone who gets it, I’m here to offer shame-free, nonjudgmental support that honors who you are, not who someone thinks you should be.

Comprehensive Abortion Support

Every abortion experience is different. You may need support with decision-making, planning and preparation, real-time care in-clinic or at home, emotional processing afterward — or all of the above. These offerings are designed to meet you exactly where you are.

You can book a single session or combine multiple calls into a custom package for full-circle support. All offers are available virtually. In-person support is available in the Philadelphia area, or via travel throughout the East Coast, Midwest, and beyond as available.

Full-Spectrum Care

Ongoing support across the full arc of your experience — before, during, and after.

Each phase of your abortion comes with its own emotional, physical, and logistical needs. This care container offers continuous support throughout it all. Whether you’re seeking practical guidance, emotional processing, or steady, compassionate presence by your side, I meet you where you are and walk with you the whole way through.

Includes day-of support + two calls, one before and one after, and we can always add additional calls before or after to best support you. You’ll find a short overview of each included call or visit below, and more in-depth details for each call type further down the page under individual Abortion Support Calls.

This bundle typically includes:

This package offers consistent, connected care across the full arc of your abortion experience, so you don’t have to piece together support as you go.

1. Pre-Abortion Prep Call

Together, we’ll prepare your body, space, and nervous system and tend to whatever emotional and logistical pieces are coming up. We’ll talk through what to expect, what you’re feeling, and what matters to you. From there, we’ll make a healing plan for your care that’s tailored to your body, your experience, and your needs.

2. Day-of Abortion Support (Text, Phone, Voice Memos, or In-Person Care)

Whether you’re at home or in a clinic, I’ll be your steady, trauma-informed support – and your advocate if needed. I’m on-call to answer questions, offer nervous-system support, guide physical comfort, navigate logistics, and be fully present for what you need — whether virtually or in person.

3. Post-Abortion Integration Call

When you’re ready, we’ll process the experience, tend to emotional layers, and integrate what this moment has brought up. Whether it’s relief, grief, confusion, peace, or a messy mix — all emotions are welcome here.

Want more support? Additional calls can always be added before or after as needed. We can also create a custom plan if you’d like more time, additional care days, or additional in-person support (for instance, grocery shopping, meal prep, etc).

Abortion Support Calls

If you’re needing something more focused or flexible, the individual support calls below provide personalized care at a specific phase of your journey. Whether you’re just beginning to explore your options, prepping for an upcoming procedure, or integrating after, you choose the support that meets you where you are. You can schedule a single call or mix and match depending on what feels right. All are available virtually as 60-minute calls, or in-person with varying lengths.

Pregnancy Options Counseling

An open, nonjudgmental space to sort through uncertainty and explore what choice looks like for you. We’ll talk through your feelings, questions, and options, and guide you toward clarity – tapping in to your own inner wisdom to make the decision that’s right for you. I can provide resources and referrals that align with whatever path you choose, including abortion clinics and virtual care, funding options, out-of-state travel support, adoption resources, prenatal care providers, and emotional or logistical supports.

Areas we can explore:

  • Explore your pregnancy options in a compassionate, nonjudgmental space
  • Work through complex emotions with gentle, clarifying prompts to connect with your truth
  • Emotional processing, somatic grounding tools, and space for grief, fear, or relief
  • Referrals for every path: abortion clinics, adoption agencies, or prenatal care
  • Information and resources for funding, travel support, and navigating restrictions
  • Trauma-informed care with no assumptions, agendas, or pressure

Pre-Abortion Support Call

A grounding call to prepare your body, mind, and nervous system. We set a foundation for what to expect, how to prepare your space (and yourself), and navigate any fears or questions that arise. We’ll explore what support looks like for you, practically, emotionally, and somatically — and arm you with tools to stay anchored throughout the process. Whether you’re planning a clinic visit, a medication abortion at home, or a self-managed experience, this call gives you a customized care map. You’ll leave clearer, calmer, and with realistic game-plan.

Depending on your needs, we can cover:

  • What to expect (physically and emotionally) for surgical, medication, or self-managed abortion.
  • Body-based nervous system regulation tools to ease anxiety, overwhelm, fear, or discomfort.
  • Preparing your space and care bag: helpful supplies, navigating privacy, and tending to your sensory needs.
  • Planning aftercare: how you’ll rest, who will be around (or not), and tools to help you heal.
  • Navigating dynamics with partners, family, or loved ones with clarity and boundaries.
  • Emotional support for grief, uncertainty, relief, or conflicting feelings – however your truth shows up.

Abortion Day Support

via text, phone, voice memos, or in-person.

Whether you’re having your abortion at home or in a clinic, you don’t have to do it alone. I offer real-time support, virtually or in person, to help you feel safe, seen, and steady. I’ll be there to help you regulate your nervous system, support your comfort, answer questions, and hold space for anything that comes up. We’ll stay in touch however feels best to you: text check-ins, voice memos, phone calls, or in-person, always with evidence-based care and embodied compassion.

This includes support like:

  • Text, voice memo, and phone support during a medication abortion at home, or while you’re at a clinic.
  • In-clinic support (when permitted) or accompaniment to and from your appointment.
  • Somatic practices for pain management and nervous system regulation (like rhythmic breathing, acupressure, or movement).
  • Co-creating a calming space with care supplies, comfort strategies, and holistic remedies on-hand.
  • Offering presence without pressure, whether you want to talk, cry, joke, or just have someone nearby for whatever comes up.
  • Logistical management and coordination for emergency care if needed.

Additional support such as grocery shopping, meal prep, and gathering care-package supplies is also available if requested at an additional fee. In-person support is available in the Philadelphia area, or via travel throughout the East Coast, Midwest, and beyond as available. Travel fee may apply depending on distance and scope of care.

Post-Abortion Integration

This is a space to land. Whether it’s been one day, one year, or a decade since your abortion, you’re allowed to need space to talk about it, feel it, or even figure out how you feel at all. These sessions are for integrating the emotional layers that arise before, during, or after abortion, and helping you return to your body in a grounded, compassionate way. Whether you’re processing grief, relief, trauma, numbness, or confusion, I’ll walk beside you with somatic tools and compassionate coaching care to process anything that’s been stirred up.

This call includes:

  • Holding space to process the emotional layers of your experience, whether it’s one day later or years down the line.
  • Debriefing the care you received (or didn’t), and processing your experience in a trauma-informed, nonjudgmental space.
  • Nervous system support for grief, anxiety, guilt, or lingering overwhelm and space for feelings of relief, joy, agency, and empowerment.
  • Helping you make meaning of the experience through journaling, ritual, or storytelling.
  • Personalized aftercare with herbal remedies, nutrition, movement, rest, and community care.

Caregiver Support Call

For partners, friends, family, or support people who want to show up with care, clarity, and emotional steadiness to support someone through their abortion. Together, we’ll explore how to be a grounded, affirming presence without overstepping, over-functioning, minimizing, or checking out. I’ll walk you through what to expect, how to prepare, and how to hold space with emotional presence. We can talk through emotional dynamics, practical planning, and how to respond when big feelings arise so you feel equipped to support with care.

This call can include:

  • Clarifying your role and exploring various methods of support you can offer
  • Tools to stay emotionally grounded, even when things feel intense
  • Processing your own fears, grief, or uncertainty so you can show up present
  • Tips to prepare your space for at-home support or gathering care supplies
  • Scripts and boundary-setting help for navigating outside opinions or family pressure
  • Answer your Q’s about abortion, what to expect, doula care, and how you can help

what clients are saying

Lorrae held space for every part of my process, grief, relief, confusion. There was never pressure to explain anything, she just got it without me having to put everything into words. It was really grounding, and helped me feel like I wasn’t doing it all alone. I came in feeling so raw and unsure, but she reminded me that I didn’t have to be strong all the time, it was okay to be sad and feel everything all at once, and okay to need support. It helped me stop spiraling and actually process my emotions. I didn’t realize how much I needed that kind of care until I had it.

ANIKA

I felt really nervous and overwhelmed going into it, and Lorrae helped me feel more prepared and less alone. She checked in without hovering, and I knew I could reach out at any point. Getting my questions answered and having someone to call or text when I was worried was so helpful to ease my anxieties. I wasn’t sure what kind of support I needed, but Lorrae made space for everything I was feeling. I felt safe being completely honest, and it felt so comfortable to have her there. That’s rare, and I really appreciated it.

JORDAN

Lorrae was incredible at walking me through the everything step-by-step. She explained all my options, helped me figure out what made the most sense for me and offered tools to stay calm and grounded throughout it. I like to have all the information, and having all that knowledge was exactly what I needed to feel really secure in my choice. She also helped me prep in advance to make it more comfortable and manageable. It was both emotional and practical support, and made me feel way more secure going into that day.

FAQ | frequently asked questions

How do I know if an abortion doula is right for me?

If you’re seeking care that feels grounding, nonjudgmental, and deeply personal, this might be right for you. A doula can offer calm, consistent support during a time that often feels overwhelming or isolating. Whether you want guidance, someone to hold space, or a trauma-informed presence on-call, I’m here to walk with you through every step of the way.

Can we have more than one call?

Yes, absolutely. We can meet as many times as you’d like, before and after your abortion, as time allows. Some people want a single call, while others find it helpful to have multiple sessions to process emotions, talk through logistics, or prepare themselves somatically and spiritually. Afterward, you might want space to unpack the experience, integrate it, or simply feel supported, and we can meet for that, too.

If you’re looking for ongoing care, the Full Spectrum Care container is a great starting point. It includes core support sessions before, during, and after your abortion. From there, we can build a custom care plan if you’d like additional support, whether that means more preparation beforehand, deeper processing after, or both. It’s common for people to want more than one call, and we can shape a plan that’s flexible and meets you exactly where you are.

Can you travel to me in person? Can we meet virtually?

Yes to both! I offer virtual support for clients across the U.S. and internationally, and in-person care in the Philadelphia area. I also travel often in my converted van, and with some advance notice, I can often come to you for in-person care. I just ask for a travel fee to cover gas and a little extra time, which is usually less than a flight or hotel stay. Reach out and we’ll see what’s possible.

My abortion was years ago. Can I still work with you?

Absolutely. There’s no expiration date on post-abortion support. Whether it’s been days or decades, I’m here for the reflection, healing, and processing you might be craving now.

Do you offer support for self-managed abortions?

Yes. I can support you through any kind of abortion: in-clinic, medication, hybrid care, or self-managed (SMA). I’ll help you prepare safely, stay grounded, and navigate emotional, physical, and logistical needs for any choice.

Do you offer support for miscarriage or loss?

Yes. While this page focuses on abortion, I also provide support through miscarriage, stillbirth, and pregnancy loss. Reach out here for personalized care options.

Can I include my partner or support person in a call?

Yes! We can absolutely bring a loved one into the session to talk about how they can support you. I recommend having at least one call with just us first, so you can have space to explore your own emotions completely freely. I also offer standalone sessions just for partners, friends, or support people. If you’d like a call to support relational rifts or conflict surrounding your abortion care, that would be a hybrid abortion-support/coaching call at a slightly higher rate.

Do you provide abortion pills or medical advice?

No. I’m not a medical provider and cannot prescribe or give medical advice. I can help you understand what to expect, offer physical and emotional support, and refer you to trusted providers and support resources if needed. I’m here to care for your emotional, logistical, and embodied needs, not to replace medical care.

What training do you have?

I’m a Certified Abortion Doula through the Colorado Doula Project and a current trainee in full-spectrum and postpartum care through Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings. I have over 10 years’ experience as a somatic and intimacy coach, a BA in Psychology and Gender Studies, and am currently in Somatic Experiencing Practitioner training through SE International. I’m also CPR/AED/First Aid certified through the Red Cross.

How long are calls?

Calls are usually 60 minutes, with flexibility based on your needs. In-person day-of abortion support is shaped around your timing and care needs, usually 6-8 hours depending on your needs and procedure.

How much does it cost?

Sessions are offered on a sliding scale of $55–$95/hour. The tier you choose is up to you, in a trust-based system that asks you to honestly reflect on your resources, and select accordingly. More info on my sliding scale can be found here. If the low end of the sliding scale is not financially accessible to you, please reach out and I’ll do my best to connect you with options and resources, including grant-funded care.

How do I book a session?

You can use the form higher up on this page, or reach out here and I’ll get back to you with next steps to best support you.
