Abortion Support + Doula Care

trauma-informed abortion support
virtually and in-person.

Abortion is deeply personal, often emotional, and always deserving of support. Whether you’re preparing, recovering, or exploring your options, you deserve care that sees all of you.

My work is rooted in supporting folks who are often neglected or harmed by the medical system: LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, survivors of SA or intimate partner violence, sex workers, non-traditional family structures, and anyone facing care barriers.

Wherever you are emotionally, physically, logistically, or spiritually, I hold space for your story, needs, and autonomy with compassionate, shame-free, identity-affirming care.

I offer virtual doula support anywhere in the world, in-person abortion doula care in Philly, and can travel throughout the USA and beyond by request.

What is an abortion doula?

An abortion doula is a care professional who provides holistic physical, emotional, and practical support to individuals navigating the experience of ending a pregnancy or experiencing a loss. While medical providers focus strictly on the clinical procedure or medication, a doula’s primary focus is tending entirely to you, your comfort, and your emotional processing.

In my practice, this care is delivered virtually or in person, focusing deeply on nervous system care, somatic grounding tools, and compassionate relational support. I am here to help you move through the logistics, emotions, and physical experience without having to pack away your complex feelings, hide your identity, or lose your sense of self.

Comprehensive Abortion Support

Every abortion experience is different. You may want support with decision-making, preparation, in-clinic or at home care, emotional processing — or all of the above. I meet you exactly where you are, whether you want a single call or full-circle support.

All support is available virtually. In-person support is available in the Philadelphia area, or via travel throughout the East Coast, Midwest, and beyond as available.

Full-Spectrum Care

Ongoing support before, during, and after

Each phase comes with emotional, physical, and logistical needs. This care container offers continuous support through it all. Whether you’re seeking practical guidance, emotional processing, or steady, compassionate presence by your side, I walk with you the whole way through.

Includes day-of support + one call before + one call after. We can always have additional calls to best support you. A short overview of support calls and day-of support are in the toggle below. Offered on a sliding scale.

This bundle includes:

Consistent, connected care across your full experience, so you don’t have to piece it together as you go.

  • 1. Pre-Procedure Prep Call: Prepare your body, space, and nervous system. We’ll talk about what to expect, what you’re feeling, and what matters to you, and tend to any emotional or logistical pieces that feel hard. Then, we’ll make a plan for your care that’s tailored to your preferences, experience, and needs.
  • 2. Day-of Abortion Support: Whether you’re at home or in a clinic, I’ll be your steady support – and advocate if needed. I’ll be on-call to answer questions, ground your nervous-system, guide physical comfort, navigate logistics, and be fully present for whatever you need. (In-person or via text, phone, voice memos, and video calls)
  • 3. Post-Procedure Integration Call: When you’re ready, we’ll process the experience, move through emotional layers, and integrate anything it brought up. Whether you feel relief, grief, confusion, peace, or a messy mix — all emotions are welcome here.

Want more support? Additional calls can always be added before or after as needed. We can also create a plan for additional care days or in-person help (like grocery shopping, meal prep, etc).

  • Emotional processing: somatic grounding tools + compassion for grief, fear, relief, or whatever comes up

Whether it’s been one day, one year, or a decade since your abortion, you’re allowed to have space to talk about it, feel it, or even figure out how you feel at all. about me

I’m Lorrae (she/her), a certified abortion doula, psychology-trained somatic trauma practitioner, and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in training with over a decade of trauma-informed care experience.

My own abortion experiences, an ectopic pregnancy, and long-standing ovarian cyst issues showed me first-hand how disconnected and emotionally hollow the traditional medical system can be. From shame and stigma, to dismissal of pain – there’s little support for our physical experience, let alone emotional weight and fear.

That absence shaped my drive to become the support person I needed, and offer compassionate care that stays present with all of who you are, even and especially when it’s messy.

For the past decade, I’ve supported people navigating sexual trauma, identity shifts, and relational healing as a sex-educator and intimacy coach. My background in trauma-informed and somatic care brings tools to regulate your nervous system, reconnect with your body, and find emotional safety and steadiness, even in life’s hardest moments.

I center care that’s inclusive, queer-affirming, body-liberated, and deeply attuned to individual experience, especially while navigating trauma, complex relational dynamics, or systemic harm. Whether you’re choosing abortion alongside trauma, facing stigma in your relationship or community, or just need someone who gets it, I’m here to offer shame-free, nonjudgmental support that honors who you are, not who someone thinks you should be.

what clients are saying

Lorrae held space for every part of my process, grief, relief, confusion. There was never pressure to explain anything, she just got it without me having to put everything into words. It was really grounding, and helped me feel like I wasn’t doing it all alone. I came in feeling so raw and unsure, but she reminded me that I didn’t have to be strong all the time, it was okay to be sad and feel everything all at once, and okay to need support. It helped me stop spiraling and actually process my emotions. I didn’t realize how much I needed that kind of care until I had it.

ANIKA

I felt really nervous and overwhelmed going into it, and Lorrae helped me feel more prepared and less alone. She checked in without hovering, and I knew I could reach out at any point. Getting my questions answered and having someone to call or text when I was worried was so helpful to ease my anxieties. I wasn’t sure what kind of support I needed, but Lorrae made space for everything I was feeling. I felt safe being completely honest, and it felt so comfortable to have her there. That’s rare, and I really appreciated it.

JORDAN

Lorrae was incredible at walking me through the everything step-by-step. She explained all my options, helped me figure out what made the most sense for me and offered tools to stay calm and grounded throughout it. I like to have all the information, and having all that knowledge was exactly what I needed to feel really secure in my choice. She also helped me prep in advance to make it more comfortable and manageable. It was both emotional and practical support, and made me feel way more secure going into that day.

FAQ | frequently asked questions

How do I know if hiring an abortion doula is right for me?

If you want a grouunded, nonjudgmental professional to walk alongside you through the physical, emotional, or relational layers of an abortion, this care is for you. A doula brings calm, consistent support during a time that often feels overwhelming or isolating. Often, my clients usually seek my support because their identities, relationships, or families are already complex, and they want a trauma-informed person who can hold nuance without flinching. Whether you want guidance, someone to hold space, or a trauma-informed presence on-call, my care is with you every step of the way.

Do you offer virtual abortion support? Do you offer abortion support in Philadelphia or Florida?

Yes to all of the above. I provide compassionate, confidential abortion support virtually, anywhere in the world. In-person care is available throughout Philadelphia and surrounding areas — South Jersey, Main Line, Delco, Chester County, Bucks County, and beyond.

I frequently travel to Florida and can easily arrange care there. Navigating the shifting legal landscapes and medical systems in many areas can feel incredibly isolating. I am here to serve as a steady, grounded anchor in your corner, regardless of your physical location. Travel throughout the US is available by request. Reach out and we’ll set it all up.

  • I am happy to travel to you outside these areas, and frequently travel to NYC, Central Florida, and down the east coast. Reach out and we can set it up.

My abortion was years ago. Can I still work with you for post-abortion support?

Absolutely. There’s no expiration date on processing a reproductive transition. If you are looking for a safe space to unpack an experience from your past, my somatic integration and trauma-informed containers are open to you whenever you are ready. Whether it’s been days or decades, I’m here for the reflection, healing, and processing you might be feeling now.

Do you offer support for self-managed abortions?

Yes. I offer nonjudgmental emotional, somatic, and physical support for individuals choosing or needing to navigate a self-managed abortion or medication abortion at home. While I cannot provide the medications or medical monitoring, I am here to help you prepare your physical environment, guide you through grounding tools to manage anxiety, and offer a steady presence so you do not have to move through the experience alone. I can also support you through in-clinic or hybrid care, if allowed by the provider.

Do you provide abortion pills or clinical medical advice?

I’m not a medical provider and provide medical advice, clinical diagnoses, or physical medications/abortion pills. My role is supportive, emotional, and somatic. I can help you locate reputable, vetted clinical resources, map out your physical comfort plan, and refer you to trusted providers and medical support resources if needed.

Do you offer grief support for miscarriage or pregnancy loss?

Yes. As a full-spectrum practitioner, my care extends to all reproductive experiences, including miscarriage, stillbirth, termination for medical reasons (TFMR), and pregnancy loss. Grief and relief can exist in the body at the exact same time. I provide a space to hold both without judgment, utilizing nervous system tools to help you process the physical and emotional weight of loss.

Can I include my partner or support person on our calls?

Yes! We can absolutely bring a loved one into the session to talk about how they can support you. I recommend having at least one call with just us first, so you can have space to explore your own emotions completely freely. I also offer standalone sessions just for partners, friends, or support people so they can best support you.

If you’re navigating relationship conflict surrounding your abortion care, that would be hybrid abortion-support and relationship coaching call to rebuild communication and connection. Reach out here and we’ll find the right fit.

How long are the calls and can we schedule more than one?

Calls are usually 60 minutes, with flexibility based on your needs. You can absolutely book multiple calls for ongoing care. Many clients choose a multi-call structure: one session before the abortion to build a comfort plan and calm the nervous system, and one or two integration calls afterward to process the emotional landscape.

In-person and virtual day-of abortion support is shaped around your timing and care needs, usually 8 hours depending on your procedure.

My Full Spectrum Care is a great starting point that includes day-of support and calls before and after your procedure.

What qualifications and training do you have as an abortion doula?

I’m a Certified Abortion Doula through the Colorado Doula Project, certified in All Options Pregnancy Counseling through Provide Care, Pregnancy Testing and Counseling through Reproductive Health National Trailing Center (RHNTC), and 14 more reproductive health and family planning counseling certifications through the RHNTC.

Additionally, I hold a BA in Psychology and Gender Studies, bring over a decade of experience as a trauma-informed relational coach and sex educator, and am completing Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) training through SE International. I’m also a certified postpartum doula through Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings, and a birth doula and childbirth educator in training through Birthing From Within.

How much does virtual abortion support cost?

Sessions are offered on a sliding scale of $55–$95. The tier you choose is up to you, in a trust-based system that you select based on your resources. More info on my sliding scale can be found here. If the low end of the sliding scale is not financially accessible to you, please reach out and I’ll do my best to connect you with options and resources, including grant-funded care.
